Everyone knows if you don’t pull a weed out by the root, it will grow back.
But what about our issues? Most people I know have been working on the same stuff for years.
They use phrases like “I’m getting better at standing up for myself” OR “Im working on my boundaries.”
One thing I know for sure is that when you change at the unconscious level the change is instant and permanent.
But how do you know that you are getting to the source of the problem? What if you fix one behavior and then the problem manifests in another way?
You quit drinking, but you become a dry drunk (still exhibiting the poor behavior of being a drunk without the drink).
When I finally quit smoking (I spent 8 years trying), it was instant, easy, and I never looked back. The benefit I received from smoking was “connection.” I seemed outgoing, but always struggled internally with connection. Cigarettes gave me a comfort crutch.
When I lost my voice for ten days because of smoking, my unconscious finally realized that smoking prohibited connection if it took my voice. I never smoked another cigarette again. Easy. Instant. Permanent.
But I did start drinking more. Not a habit I needed to increase.
But, unless you pull the weed out by the root, the weed will grow back—in one form or another.
It is my honor to share this episode of Self-Sabotaging Sagas with my former client Kaddy Feast. We are going to dig deep into the life changing and profound results that come from taking pulling the weed out by the root.
