Self-Sovereign identity gives the control of their identity back into the hands of the end users.

Identity belongs to the user, who can then decide with which entity he shares it (or part of it), and for how long.
This video shows some of the possibilities of SSI and how it can be implemented and used.

SSI can help prevent data breaches by simply withholding the final information (passport numbers, birthdays, addresses) from the company requiring it, by using principles like zero-knowledge proof.

It also gives the option to the end-user to revoke access to personal data from certain parties once that information is no longer required.
