A recent Zillow survey explored seller preferences regarding listing exposure and the use of Multiple Listing Services (MLS) versus private listing networks (PLNs). The survey revealed that most sellers lack a strong understanding of MLS and PLNs, and agents often fail to adequately explain the differences between them. Despite agent recommendations for PLNs, sellers prioritize maximizing exposure to the widest pool of potential buyers. Most respondents believe listings should be viewable for free on public consumer websites. Furthermore, the majority feel that restricting listing access could lead to discrimination, and that broader visibility increases the likelihood of bidding wars. Zillow leadership has voiced strong support for policies that promote transparency and data flow in the real estate market, arguing that they ultimately benefit consumers and agents alike.
