An attorney and civil rights activist, Senator Marsh fought massive resistance policy in Virginia schools, litigated cases against discrimination in employment, retention and promotion of African American teachers, and led the fight against race discrimination in employment. In addition, Senator Marsh was elected the African American mayor of Richmond, and is considered one of the leading trial and appellate lawyers in Virginia.
