She received her B.S. in Civil Engineering Technology from Savannah State University in Savannah, GA, and is a lifetime member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. She retired from the Georgia Department of Transportation.

Reverend Sanford is a prayer warrior and believes that a prayer is a powerful tool for all believers of Christ. Her favorite scripture grounds her, "Moreover whom He did predestinate, them He also called: and who He called, them He also justified: and whom He Justified, them He also glorified." Romans 8:30.
