Japanese Grammar Tips

Sentence-ending particle "ne" and "yo"

Listen Later

In this lesson, I will introduce two sentence-ending particles called "ne" and "yo".

Sentence-ending particles are used to show or imply your feeling or mood.

あのひと は さとうさん です

That is Mr. Sato, right?

* is used to seek the listener's confirmation or agreement to what you are saying.

メアリーさん は アメリカ人 です

Mary is an American.

* indicates that you are confident of what you are saying and want a listener believe it.

In this case you are confident that Mary is an American.
