God is speaking to His people saying, "there must be a death process in our lives." There are habits, thoughts, philosophies, relationships, and things of our past that must die. There is pain and loneliness in death but God has given us a greater plan if we heed His voice. We cannot run from this process, for God desires His divine will to be done in our lives. When we decide to "give up the ghost" just as our Lord and Savior did on the cross, we will be elevated and glorified.
