Sermon Notes-"Redefined: Separated"

April 26, 2015
Sermon Series: Redefined I Scripture: 2 Corinthians 6:14-7:1
KLC 2015 Theme: Seeking His Kingdom
"But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. "
Matthew 6:33 (NKJV)

Background:

• The Corinthian church was established by the apostle Paul during his second missionary journey (Acts 18). He spent

at least 18 months with this church, teaching and developing leaders.
• In spite of the time Paul invested in them, the church remained spiritually immature, reflecting the culture rather
than Christ. 1 Corinthians addressed many of.the behavior and doctrinal issues that arose after his departure. Some
in the church didn't receive'it and questioned his motives.
• In 2 Corinthians Paul explains his actions since his absence and defends his ministry.
• In chapters 5 Paul states that believers are new creations with a new purpose (ambassadors of Christ). In chapter 6
Paul describes how we do it.

Lesson Text

14 Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or

what fellowship has light with darkness? 15 What accord has Christ with Belial? Or what portion does a believer
share with an unbeliever? 16 What.agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the
living God; as God said, "I will make my dwelling among them and walk among them, and I will be their God,
and they shall be my people. 17 Therefore go out from their midst, and be separate from them, says the Lord,
and touch no unclean thing; then I will welcome you, 18 and I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and
daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty." 1 Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves
from every defilement of body and spirit, bringing holiness to completion in the fear of God.
2 Corinthians 6:14-7:1 (ESV)

Paul's Message: "Don't make ALLIANCES with unbelievers that COMPROMISE your faith."

"How do I know if I'm in an unequally yoked partnership or relationship?"

If your relationship with an individual PULLS you away or THREATENS to pull you away from your

commitment to Christ and accomplishing His will, it is an unequally yoked relationship.

11 May you be strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with

joy, 12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light.
Colossians 1:11-12 (ESV)

21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of

God.
2 Corinthians 5:21 (ESV)

"Why should I avoid being unequally yoked?"

Because being in the FAMILY of God, and enjoying FELLOWSHIP with God, and experiencing the

FAVOR of God is better than anything an unequally yoked partnership could give you.

16 Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you?

1 Corinthians 3:16 (ESV)

"How can I avoid being unequally yoked?"

Being positively motivated by God's promises, commit yourself to being totally SEPARATED for God's

purpose, and the APPEAL will go away.

33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

Matthew 6:33 (ESV)
