Good day and welcome to this week’s episode of the Nursing Show podcast for nurses, by nurses. Tip of the Week – SCCM Updates Sepsis Guidelines

Sepsis and septic shock is one of the things we are supposed to be trained to recognize as nurses but there has never been a bedside-accessible set of assessments that could be used without having a fresh set of labs available. A recent research article on Sepsis in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) talks about redefining the criteria for alerting when a patient has suspected sepsis.

The formerly used SIRS criteria which stands for systemic inflammatory response syndrome has been replace by the SOFA assessment.
