Intro:  Humility is too seldom seen in our society

I.  The Seat In Which We Belong

A.  Jesus’ lesson is not about social embarrassment

B.  The wedding feast as a metaphor for the Kingdom of God

1.  Our seat should be outside

2.  We only have a place by grace

3. God’s intolerance for self-righteousness or entitlement

C.  You are a disciple by God’s choice and Jesus’ self-sacrifice (Heb. 13:11)

II.  “I am an unworthy servant, I have only done my duty.” 

     (Luke 17:10)

A.  Discipleship is why we are here

B.  What is your response to what Jesus has done for you?

1.  No response (Matt. 25:26, 28-30)

2.  Low response (1 Cor.3:15)

3.  Fruitful response (Matt. 25:23)

III.  Humble Discipleship in Action 

A.  Mercy

B.  Hospitality (Heb. 13:2f)

C.  Not forgetting those imprisoned

D.  Honoring God with your sexuality

E.  Being honored to be “outside the camp”

What is the difference between thinking of yourself as a “Disciple of Jesus” or just thinking of yourself as a “believer in Jesus”?

Why do people neglect humility for either self-righteousness or arrogance?
