But Hurricane Maria in 2017 was very much a Puerto Rico Story.  It was the strongest hurricane to hit Puerto Rico in more than 80 years.  It wiped out homes, roads, and bridges, while also knocking out power across the entire island. Puerto Rico is what is referred to as an unincorporated territory of the United States. This means that this gorgeous island of Puerto Rico is neither a sovereign nation nor a U.S. state; and they were treated as such in the aftermath by all accounts.
