Once you start taking the easy way out, then begins the slippery slope down to mediocrity. Once you're in mediocrity, nothing significant grows there and opportunities will start to dry up into a desert. Once you're in a desert, there is no water, no food sources and then you'll perish away. So this is why we need to put effort into our work, and make sure we don't lick that lollipop. 

When you suck as a person, you'll have weak relationships, bad personal finances, and always be complaining about your low paying job. This lifestyle truly sucks and can only be avoided by challenging yourself and putting your best effort into not being mediocre.
