Sophie Labelle is a cartoonist and activist, who’s been drawing the webcomic Assigned Male since 2014. This has earned her both dedicated fans around the world, but also enemies, the latter have organised several online hate-campaigns against her.  Listen to Sophie in conversation with Talk Town host CHIEF about her work with Assigned Male, on art and comics as activism and on where we go next in the struggle for trans-rights. 

 This podcast is a recording of the talk "Serious Trans Vibes" with Sophie Labelle, interviewed by Talk Town host CHIEF, that took place on stage at Gammel Strand on August 14th 2021, as part of FLUID Festival.
   
 FLUID Festival is a space that celebrates women, genderqueer and non-binary identities during Copenhagen 2021. The Feminist festival Talk Town and FLUID festival joined forces to host a series of interesting talks during Copenhagen 2021. 
  
 About the speaker:  
Sophie Labelle is a neurodivergent trans cartoonist and novelist from Montréal, in French Canada. She is the author of the webcomic Assigned Male, which has been running since 2014, and the Ciel novel series. She likes to collect rocks and lives in Finland with her husband and their cat Laszlo. ''The Best of Assigned Male'' was recently published by Hachette UK.

About the host: 
CHIEF is a rapper from Copenhagen who, with her political consciousness, creates a new wave of activism through music.

CHIEF has an Old-School vibe with the ordinary sound we know from the hip hop scene today. She is active in human rights and antidiscrimination activism.
