Good Friday
"Today we gather to watch a man die. Because we love him the watching is hard" (O.P. Kretzmann, Voices of the Passion). But because he loves us, what we see is our salvation.
Tonight, the church remembers the crucifixion of our Lord. Good Friday focuses on the sacrifice Christ made on the cross to free us from sin. Our remembrance, while solemn, is the awe-filled adoration of the Son of God as he offers up his life for us. Worship on Good Friday is not a funeral service for Jesus, but a serious time of reflection. We gather to celebrate the sacrifice of the cross. Throughout the course of worship, you will notice that the sun is setting. Yet, even on Good Friday, we worship a living Christ.
