Perhaps no line spoken by Jesus has proven more contentious than that found in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” More than even Jesus’ bold and frequent claims to divinity, this claim to be the only way to the Father, has stirred up much division through the ages. And yet, as we examine the original context, we see that Jesus makes this claim to instill comfort and confidence in his followers.
