Why does the Bible emphasize the word “gospel”? The "gospel" means "important news" (very important news). It consists of a message from God concerning human salvation. It is a divine communication concerning Jesus. Jesus is the long foretold Messiah who, through his life, death and resurrection, provides a way for lost humanity to be gathered into the presence of God for eternity. Verse 15… “Repent and believe the gospel”. Do you believe the gospel? Our response to the gospel involves both a turning to God and a reliance on God for mercy. Be intentional during Lent and share the gospel with someone.

In verse 8 --- John says, “I indeed baptized you with water, but He (Jesus) will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.” This statement is repeated six times in the Bible. All four of the gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John) share this statement and it is twice found in the book of Acts (Acts 1:5 and 11:16). What does this mean for you and I?

This Sunday the sermon will come from the Gospel of Mark. We will share in Holy Communion as we humbly praise God for giving us the gospel and inviting us to His table.
