Today brings us to the First Sunday in Advent, the first day of a New Church Year, and in it, we are brought to two dramatic historical realities, one in the Old Testament Lesson (Is. 26), the other in our Gospel (Mt. 21). In these lessons, we see a graphic example of historical realities that bring with them a sharp point that we need to see and hear on this first day of the Church year.
