There are certainly some areas of our Christian life that are contrary to culture or conventional wisdom. But the idea of serving one another is not one of them. Serving is a universal value. Many organizations speak clearly about their purpose to serve a particular group or cause. Serving is a widely-held value.

As followers of Christ, our motivation goes beyond simple altruism. We serve because Scripture calls us to serve one another. We also serve because it reflects the character and glory of God.
