Melvin and Voncille Greene of Glenn Dale, Maryland have been married 12 years and, for four years, have hosted the TV show Living A Godly Marriage, which airs three times a week in Prince Georges County where they live.
Listen to them enthusiastically share insights and strategies for keeping God at the center of marriage.
The Greenes describe their marriage as a divine union and insist that marriage is a covenant, not a contract.
Here is how they break it down:
1. A Covenant is based on trust and faith.
A Contract is based on mistrust and fear.
2. A Covenants object is to please God.
A Contract is to please and protect self.
3. A Covenant is based on your spouses interest and needs.
A Contract is based on your own interests and needs.
4. A Covenants goal is to give.
A contracts goal is to get.
5. A Covenant is based on sacrifice.
A Contract is based on convenience.
6. A marriage Covenant is for a lifetime.
A Contract is for a limited time.
7. A Covenant cannot be broken.
A Contract can be broken.
8. A Covenant is an unconditional commitment.
A Contract is conditional.
9. A Covenant is based on grace.
A Contract is based on the law.
10. A Contract is consummated by both parties signing.
A Covenant is consummated by the shedding of blood.
Thats a big thing too. Commitment. Its not a lets try this out, Melvin Greene says.
