Session 29: The Wood and the Wild

Listen Later

The one man band Jon Perry of The Wood and The Wild shares his audio visual styling with us. The Sunday Sessions Project welcomes something new this week in “The Wood and The Wild”.
The Wood and The Wild is the name of a unique solo project by multi-instrumentalist Jon Perry. Jon conceived this project a few years ago as a way to dig into stories that went deep and were autobiographical.
Jon wrote an intimate and honest album and then did it all. He plays all the instruments on this, essentially, long poem that has been described as “cinematic folk”. To that end he will bring his multimedia presentation of this album to our studio. He has also sometimes settled on the description of his music as “supernatural folk”. Whatever you want to call it this album is a great listen. https://store.cdbaby.com/cd/thewoodandthewild
Although Jon enjoys many other musicians work he has tried not to attach himself to anyone else’s coattails musically. At all times he has attempted to craft an album that is honest to his life and experiences. His family has deep musical roots in Virginia which adds authenticity to his song writing. His voice has been described as “perfectly suited to folk”. Jon feels blessed and happy to be a working musician.
Taken as a whole the album sets a mood that can’t be ignored as it floats through an uncommon musical landscape. From the ethereal to the upbeat Jon paints pictures with his music.
