Mellowbird came to the studio today to share some of their awesome melodies with us!
These three bandmates met at Temple University studying for degrees in Music Therapy.
Music therapy combines a love of music and a desire to help people, not with musical pursuits, but rather people with a host of problems, disabilities or dementia, achieve non-musical goals.
Alyssa recently graduated and is helping people wherever she is needed.
The band combines a shared interest in a folky jazzy style of music that they fully write together. They are proud of each other’s high level of musicianship. They write deeply personal songs and are working to create a coherent sound. They feel that music “should feel good to make” and “the process should be just as good as the final product is”. To that end they truly enjoy each other company and musical contributions.
Although they have collected enough original material for an EP they have chosen to concentrate on their live performances and hone their sound before entering a recording studio. They hope that their music will surprise people and bring a fresh rock sound to their folk. They consider their process as making a “purposefully written song”.
