A couple Saturdays ago, Feast Meets West's Andrew Ryan heard some chattering outside his window bright and early in the morning, so he went out to see what it was. Soon the sound of firecrackers filled the neighborhood: someone was getting married! It turns out that this is one of the most popular times of the year to get married in Taiwan.

Today's menu: In our first course, hosts Ellen Chu and Andrew Ryan talk about their experiences hosting nuptials. In our second course, Andrew heads up into the mountains to sample a traditional Atayal tribe soup that’s associated with weddings. And in our third and final course, we’ll be sampling Chinese wedding “cake”! Plus, we’ll tell you why some people say it’s unlucky for the bride to eat her own cakes.
