Colossians 3:2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.

Romans 8:5 Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.

So, although we do not have control over every thought that comes into our mind, we do have control on what we set our minds on. We can choose to think about fleshly things, OR we can choose think about Spiritual things. Fleshly things lead to sin and death. Spiritual things lead to prosperity and life.
