Today’s practice is designed to help you settle and come back to yourself in moments of heightened energy. Moments when your mind is racing, your body is humming with leftover adrenaline and there’s this feeling of energy circulating throughout your body. It might come after a busy day, an emotionally charged conversation, a buildup of stress or even something beautiful that left your system a little overstimulated.
I’ve come to describe this feeling as ‘fizzy’, sort of like a bottle of soft drink that has been shaken. Everything feels a little too activated, the bubbles swirling, rising, fizzing and circulating around your body creating a sense of urgency or restlessness. And sometimes in these moments of heightened emotion or energy it can be helpful to move. We know that emotion is energy in motion and so sometimes this energy needs to be physically released from the body through movement.
But then there are other times when you just need to let everything settle. You need calm. You need stillness. A pause. A moment to let the bubbles rise to the surface and be released. Because just as a shaken bottle of soft drink will settle when it’s left undisturbed, so too will you.
So with that being said, today’s practice is to support you in settling. In coming back to yourself. In allowing the fizzy energy to fizzle out of you as you recalibrate your nervous system and return to a state of balance, calm and groundedness.
After listening to this meditation, you may like to journal and reflect on questions such as:
* What does “fizzy energy” feel like in you body? Describe it in detail…sensations, metaphors, colours, textures.
* What tends to trigger this elevated or heightened energy for you?
* When you feel activated, what does your body usually ask for…movement or stillness? And how do you know?
* What helps you come back to yourself when you feel scattered or overstimulated?
As always, I hope you enjoy this meditation, it was a lovely one to create for you!
With love,
