Seven Essential Self-Hosted Apps for a Smarter Privacy-Focused Digital Life

Listen Later

Welcome back, everyone! Today I’m sharing the seven self-hosted apps I use every single day—tools that keep my data private, my home running smoothly, and my digital life organized.

First up is Home Assistant. “It’s the command center for my smart home,” I always say, automating lights, sensors, and climate control in one intuitive dashboard.

Next, Pi-hole. “I couldn’t imagine my network without it,” blocking ads and trackers for every device on my LAN and speeding up web browsing in an instant.

For file syncing and cloud storage, I rely on Nextcloud. “With Nextcloud, I have my files in the cloud, but on my terms,” so my documents, photos, and calendars stay secure on my own server.

When it comes to passwords, Vaultwarden is my go-to. “It keeps all my passwords secure,” and it even generates strong credentials on the fly.

Uptime Kuma is my watchdog—“I get alerts the moment a service goes down,” so I’m always one step ahead of outages.

For media streaming, Jellyfin brings my movies and music together. “I love having my personal media library available anywhere,” with no subscription required.

Last but not least, Tailscale creates a private mesh network for all my devices. “It’s like having a secure VPN without the headaches,” letting me access servers on the go.

There you have it—seven powerful self-hosted apps that transform my tech stack every day. Thanks for listening, and I’ll see you next time!
