Millions of people have been dealing with sex addiction in their lives. However, the 12 Steps of the recovery process has helped many of them over the years, both the addict and their spouse, and it can help you as well. In this video, Dr. Doug Weiss, licensed psychologist and national author, walks you through this second step and its principles.
With Step Two, it's coming to believe in a power greater than yourself. It can take time to do so because it's a process. You coming to realize and believe that you are a sex addict wasn't easy and in most cases wasn't instant. It took time, situations, and reflection.
Even if you don't have a faith or aren't really familiar with it, you can still participate in this spiritual step. You don't have to personalize it, you just believe in a power greater than you to keep you sane and grounded regardless of your situation. This power can't be your group, another person, or anything created by man or nature; it has to be greater than ourselves. It's big and that's good because you need a big power to help you to recover from being a sex addict. This power can restore you to sanity, to restore you to how you were before the addiction or restore you to if you were never addicted. To take you from a path of distraction and being able to see and enjoy people as who they are without the sexualization. By doing this step, your soul, your spirit, and your hopes can be free and restored. You can recover and have a better loving relationship with your significant other.
