While these scarcely populated islands were only settled as late 1770, their history has since been anchored to the power struggles between France and Britain and includes a wide variety of goings on – from serving as a haven for French corsairs to serving as a haven (or, technically, prison) again, this time to exiles of the French and British Empires.
