Teaching #2 in a series of 3 by Robert covering the Torah and the detailed laws of ISrael. The laws are also similar to those of other Mesopotamian cultures such as the law of Enshunna and Hamurabi. Both laws and Kingdoms are examined in detail prior to reading the laws of chapters 21-22. While not organized ina particular way we see agrarian, economic, judicial, religious, marital, and employment (servant/servitude) laws detailed as well as those dealing with capital punishment. Much of these laws would have been established by Moses in the prior chapter before Jethro gave his advice. The question of when these were penned or established written law is speculative. Moses could have written them on the journey in the Wilderness. However the fact these sound like established laws in a settle Canaan means that Joshua could have penned them since Moses had passed before such an establishment could take place. Scholars call Exodus 20-23 the Book of the law/Covenant and it is the most frustrating portion of OT scripture to wrestle with
