As the prodigal son takes his inheritance, he travels to a far country and wastes all he has on a wicked and perverse lifestyle. In this section of the parable we see that the younger son is being set up as the ultimate 'bad guy' within the Jewish culture in order to set the Pharisees up for the main point of the parable.
