Shane Van Gisbergen swept Sonoma, the NASCAR In-Season Challenge bracket is already busted, and now the Cup Series heads back to Chicagoland for the first time since 2019.
Chase Holden and NASCAR driver Garrett Smithley are back for RACESPACE Episode 15, recapping the full Sonoma weekend and looking ahead to a huge NASCAR return at Chicagoland Speedway.
The guys break down Shane van Gisbergen winning both the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series race and the Cup Series race, Chase Briscoe closing in late, Ty Gibbs showing stage speed, Todd Gilliland earning Big Dog of the Week, Bubba Wallace’s road-course growth, and whether SVG’s road-course dominance can carry him into the Chase.
Garrett also gives the driver and garage perspective from the No. 0 team’s Sonoma weekend with Alex Labbé in the SS GreenLight / BRK Racing Chevrolet. The guys talk practice speed, stage points, top-ten pace, the rear-end and truck-arm issue that hurt the final run, finishing P19, and what it takes for a team to rebuild, re-wrap, and reset a race car on the road between San Diego and Sonoma.
Then it is time for the NASCAR In-Season Challenge and Chicagoland preview. Chase and Garrett build their RACESPACE bracket for the Round of 16, including Bowman vs. Cindric, Gilliland vs. Hocevar, Briscoe vs. Gibbs, McDowell vs. Elliott, Hamlin vs. Jones, Buescher vs. Bell, Byron vs. Larson, and SVG vs. Blaney.
They also dig into how many Cup drivers have never raced Chicagoland, why the track could be different after sitting off the schedule since 2019, and why this weekend could get unpredictable fast.
Plus, Garrett talks about jumping into the No. 42 O’Reilly Auto Parts Series car for Tyler Young at Chicagoland while Cole Custer runs the No. 0, and the guys touch on Christian Lundgaard’s wild IndyCar win at Road America, Marcus Ericsson’s late heartbreak, Will Power vs. Graham Rahal, David Malukas, Alex Palou and the OpenAI car at Mid-Ohio, Guy Fieri joining Legacy Motor Club, and more from around the racing world.
