Modern Christianity is often obsessed with the idea of "calling." This is probably because we are a culture of individualists, constantly trying to figure out our individual place in the world. As we look at the story of Moses' calling at the burning bush, there is certainly an individual element (God takes Moses' story and weaves it together), but it is really not about Moses. In reality, Moses is called through his weakness rather than his strength.
The story is really about YHWH, the Great I AM, the one who "will be who He will be." This story is about God and His missional activity in the world. Moses is invited to participate and is shaped as he acknowledges his own frailty.
