I've seen it way too often in wrestling where another person will comment on another's post with a joke or insult. I find it happens for one of 2 reasons:
1. The person is trying to come off as the more intellectual of the two OR
2. They're trying to be funny in a mean spirited way to humble the other person.
Why?
Here's someone just doing their thing, living their life, trying to put out something of theirs and immediately, they're attacked. And it's by friends or family or coworkers! I've noticed this especially when someone's trying to promote a wrestling show or appearance or just some of their content. It happens and it takes them down a peg and in the end, it just makes the person think twice about posting or opening up or promoting because it's a community of social piranhas. Everyone's got to get in and attack and deflate the post and make that post worthless and meaningless.
There's nothing to gain from this! Nothing. In fact, it causes everyone to lose. You lose respect, the person who posts loses confidence in themselves and the platform, you miss out on content because everyone is too afraid to be taken down with demeaning comments. It's so destructive.
Let the person breathe. Give them confidence in being able to share with their friends and followers. It just creates a more healthy and social environment. You're figuratively telling them to shut up.
Here's an alternative:
Like their content, engage with them, share it even to give someone an extra boost today that they might need. Instead of deflating their own consciousness, maybe you could make that person's day after having a couple of bad ones. Then when it's your turn in a moment of weakness and you turn to social media for a little high five or a bit of attention or you need support, that person will return the favor.
It's common sense. Just be polite and supportive like you would a real friend. We're too busy playing it cool or acting like big shows when positivity and encouragement and connection are the true metrics of friendships and relationships in general. And guess what? That person does it to act cool, but they're not cool. They're miserable. Basically just stop being a piece of shit. Nobody likes it. If you need to, call buddy our privately on the side that's doing it. Let them know that it sucks. That's how you change the game everyone!
With that said, share this with someone who might need it. I'm going to spend today sharing stuff that I think is positive or constructive or informative. Hopefully it's something you've said. Have a great day!
