The Samaritan woman asks the townspeople if Jesus could be the Christ. They believe that He is based on her testimony. And then they spend two days with Him and believe even more based on His testimony.

Go and proclaim the Gospel - preach the good news to others. One will sow and another will reap. We don't know our role in the moment, but let us be faithful to God and call in our lives.

John 4:34-45
Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work. Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, then comes the harvest’? Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest. Already the one who reaps is receiving wages and gathering fruit for eternal life, so that sower and reaper may rejoice together. For here the saying holds true, ‘One sows and another reaps.’ I sent you to reap that for which you did not labor. Others have labored, and you have entered into their labor.”

 Many Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman's testimony, “He told me all that I ever did.” So when the Samaritans came to him, they asked him to stay with them, and he stayed there two days. And many more believed because of his word. They said to the woman, “It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this is indeed the Savior of the world.”

After the two days he departed for Galilee. (For Jesus himself had testified that a prophet has no honor in his own hometown.) So when he came to Galilee, the Galileans welcomed him, having seen all that he had done in Jerusalem at the feast. For they too had gone to the feast.

Today, we see the Samaritan woman run back to town to call others to see Jesus. She uses her story and Jesus's knowledge of it to draw them out. She asks, "Can this be the Christ?"

And the townspeople respond - they follow her back to the well.

While they are coming back, Jesus and His disciples talk about spiritual food. Jesus, though weary from His travels, did not need to eat. He was satisfied in doing God's work.

John 4:27-34
Just then his disciples came back. They marveled that he was talking with a woman, but no one said, “What do you seek?” or, “Why are you talking with her?” So the woman left her water jar and went away into town and said to the people, “Come, see a man who told me all that I ever did. Can this be the Christ?” They went out of the town and were coming to him.

Meanwhile the disciples were urging him, saying, “Rabbi, eat.” But he said to them, “I have food to eat that you do not know about.” So the disciples said to one another, “Has anyone brought him something to eat?” Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work.

Jesus continues His interaction with the woman at the well. She changes the topic of conversation from her long list of husbands to where to worship. Jesus tells her that it is not about where one worships but all about who and how. He calls her (and us) to only worship the Father in spirit and truth.

Then He reveals to her that He is the Messiah - the Christ. It is an amazing and clear revelation!

Praise God, and let's worship Him alone.

John 4:19-26
The woman said to him, “Sir, I perceive that you are a prophet. Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you say that in Jerusalem is the place where people ought to worship.” Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father. You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” The woman said to him, “I know that Messiah is coming (he who is called Christ). When he comes, he will tell us all things.” Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am he.”

The Samaritan woman thirsts for love of some kind. She has been married 5 times and is sleeping with at least her 6th man. She is looking for love in all the wrong places. Jesus is offering the living water that will satisfy any thirst she might have. Much better than any marriage or relationship.

Turn to Jesus and be fulfilled!

John 4:16-18
Jesus said to her, “Go, call your husband, and come here.” The woman answered him, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “You are right in saying, ‘I have no husband’; for you have had five husbands, and the one you now have is not your husband. What you have said is true.”

In His grace, Jesus initiates with a Samaritan woman at the well. He is the one who seeks out - not the sinner.

While she can draw water from the well, it is water that can never satisfy. It is only temporary.

Jesus offers living water—the Holy Spirit —which will always satisfy. This is a free gift from God. There is nothing that the woman or we do to earn or gain it. It is only from God.

John 4:7-15
A woman from Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give me a drink.” (For his disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.) The Samaritan woman said to him, “How is it that you, a Jew, ask for a drink from me, a woman of Samaria?” (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.) Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.” The woman said to him, “Sir, you have nothing to draw water with, and the well is deep. Where do you get that living water? Are you greater than our father Jacob? He gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did his sons and his livestock.” Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water, so that I will not be thirsty or have to come here to draw water.”

Jesus leaves Judea (Nicodemus and John the Baptist) to return to Galilee. He makes His way to Samaria and the well of Jacob. Since Jesus is truly God and truly man, His journey wearies him and stops to rest in Samaria. It is here he will have an interaction with a Samaritan woman.

Jesus shows us again that the Gospel is good news for the Jews first and then for the Gentiles. We are brought into His kingdom and family through His blood, not by our pedigree and birth.

John 4:1-6
Now when Jesus learned that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus was making and baptizing more disciples than John (although Jesus himself did not baptize, but only his disciples), he left Judea and departed again for Galilee. And he had to pass through Samaria. So he came to a town of Samaria called Sychar, near the field that Jacob had given to his son Joseph. Jacob's well was there; so Jesus, wearied as he was from his journey, was sitting beside the well. It was about the sixth hour.

John the Baptist again makes it clear that he is not the Christ. He is the one who comes before to proclaim and exult the Messiah.

Jesus is the Christ and the Savior! He is the promised Messiah and came to save the world. 

John 3:22-30
After this Jesus and his disciples went into the Judean countryside, and he remained there with them and was baptizing. John also was baptizing at Aenon near Salim, because water was plentiful there, and people were coming and being baptized (for John had not yet been put in prison).
Now a discussion arose between some of John's disciples and a Jew over purification. And they came to John and said to him, “Rabbi, he who was with you across the Jordan, to whom you bore witness—look, he is baptizing, and all are going to him.” John answered, “A person cannot receive even one thing unless it is given him from heaven. You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, ‘I am not the Christ, but I have been sent before him.’ The one who has the bride is the bridegroom. The friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly at the bridegroom's voice. Therefore this joy of mine is now complete. He must increase, but I must decrease.”

Do not love the darkness; rather, turn to Christ Jesus. He is the light. He will expose all that you think is hidden. Run from your sin and worship Jesus.

John 3:19-21
And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.

There are two types of people. First, those who believe in Jesus and, therefore, are not condemned. Second, those who do not believe and are already condemned. They are already guilty.

Bow your knee today to your king, King Jesus. He is the only one who can save you from God's just wrath.

John 3:17-18
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

We finally made it to John 3:16! It's such a famous verse. It is essential to take it in context with the rest of Jesus's conversation with Nicodemus. 

In this verse, we see that God is the primary actor; He is the one who saves us. Our natural path is one of death - of God's wrath. We must be saved from this. It is only through Jesus that we can be saved. No other path leads to salvation. We must believe in Jesus and Him alone!
