Yesterday in Old Quebec City I stopped for a street show and ended up talking with Vincent Mongeon, a Quebec-born acrobat working the pavement with hand balancing, breakdance, and high-energy circus work. His act was sharp, but what pulled me in was a line he dropped more than once: “Freedom while we still have it.” After the hat was passed I walked up, and the conversation that followed is today’s interview—just a few unscripted minutes after the show.Mongeon performs in the street-theatre tradition: athletic, funny, and aimed at whoever happens to gather. The Quebec festival circuit has listed him with the piece La Vie est un Cirque, the same mix of acrobatics and crowd work we saw yesterday. This episode is not a polished career profile. It is the encounter itself—what he said in the act, and what he said when the crowd thinned.
