Fasting, in particular, reveals the essence of worship: Allah ﷻ, As-Samad, needs nothing from us, yet we are in complete need of Him. No government, system, or authority on earth can compel billions of people to willingly abandon their most basic biological needs—food, drink, and intimacy—purely out of unseen faith. Yet in Ramadan, Allah ﷻ prescribes it, and the Ummah responds in obedience. This collective surrender is the miracle of Ramadan: a global act of discipline driven solely by īmān bil-ghayb. Through fasting, believers cultivate taqwa, drawing closer to Allah ﷻ without withdrawing from society. In this lies the beauty of Islam—transforming hearts through pure devotion to the unseen Lord.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was blessed with unparalleled character, and among the greatest gifts Allah bestowed upon him was the knowledge of how to worship Him. Human reason and experience alone cannot determine how to please the Creator; true guidance comes only through divine ‘ilm and hidayah. Allah says in Surah al-Ḍuḥā that He found the Prophet ﷺ without knowledge of worship and guided him, granting both understanding and the tawfiq to act upon it. While knowledge may be learned, hidayah is its realization through sincere obedience. What distinguishes the Ummah is that we do not speculate in worship—we follow the clear, objective example of the Prophet ﷺ.

Are we truly mindful of our ultimate destination?
