Shayna grew up in Roseville, California, as a runner and triathlete. She then focused on cross-country mountain biking, winning a national title in 2013. She also raced road and MTB while attending UCLA and is a certified USA Cycling Coach.

She is passionate about mentoring and inspiring others to lead healthier lifestyles and has hosted various community cycling clinics, including events on Native American reservations. Shayna is also a member of the Oneida Tribe of Indians of Wisconsin, where she has family ties and where she hosted a group ride event back in 2018. In conjunction with these events, she and her fiancee, NFL player Eli Ankou, started a non-profit organization called the Dreamcatcher Foundation. This foundation empowers youth through sports, specifically football and cycling.
