Shazia Mirza was born in Birmingham, the eldest daughter of Muslim Pakistani parents who moved to Birmingham in the 1950s. She read Biochemistry at Manchester University and then achieved a post-grad certificate in education at Goldsmiths. Before beginning her career in comedy, Shazia was a science teacher at Langdon Park School where she taught Dizzee Rascal ! She later went to Rose Bruford College where she studied acting part time while working as a supply teacher.
