Sometimes we can feel discouraged; we have a lot of great ideas to better kids’ ministry, but not many of our ideas get used. It feels like if we’re not the ones in charge, we can’t make a difference. That’s not true. Today we’re talking about how much a Sunday school teacher is worth (a lot), and the things we can do and maybe even are already doing that make a difference and further the Kingdom of God.

We’re discussing a few things we can consider when planning a lesson to help us to come up with those extras that make a lesson stand out:

1. What is my point/What do I want them to understand?
2. What is something in the story that I could make visible/tangible?
3. What could I let the kids do to help them experience this idea? 
4. What can they take home to help remind them of this point?

Today I’m giving a recap of my church’s recent Vacation Bible School. It was fun! We had some challenges, but overall, it was great. I just want to share a little bit about it with you!

People aren’t perfect, neither are church departments. Not even Sunday school. (noooooo!) As teachers, we can see the imperfections, and we want to help; we want to change things for the better. We want things to be better for the children, for the guests, for the teachers, and for the Kingdom. However, most of us aren’t really in a position to make big changes (I’m sure not). Most of us are just regular ol’ Sunday school teachers. Not exactly a position of power. What could we possibly do? Stage a revolt? No (please, please no!)

A big change doesn’t necessarily mean a major overhaul. Even if we can’t get that bigger classroom, convince the church to switch curricula, or get iPads for every room, there is still POSITIVE change that WE can effect to make at least our Sunday School the best that we can. This isn’t a cop-out because doing our best in what we’ve been given contributes toward God’s Kingdom, so don’t underestimate what we invest in it!
