Sheltering In Place: Finding The Silver Lining

Listen Later

There is a lot of sadness, stress, anxiety and unknown going on in our world right now with the COVID-19 pandemic. Outside of watching the nightly news, we aren’t watching regular TV in our house right now. I can’t stand the constant reminders with commercials about the virus and at some point, my brain needs to rest and recharge. Although there is so much to be sad and negative about, I’ve also found there are a lot of positives going on in our world right now. On today’s episode, I’m sharing all of the positives that have come out of coronavirus and sheltering in place for our family.

There’s always a silver lining...we just have to look for it.

What we’re talking about

  • Quality Time As A Couple & As A Family
  • Discovering More Time To Be Creative
  • Becoming Neighbors Instead Of Being Strangers

Quality Time As A Couple & As A Family

One of the best things to come out of sheltering in place for over a month has been the quality time we are having as a family and as a couple. Our time together is more intentional with daily family walks and playtime, endless rounds of knock knock jokes, and dance parties. For my husband and I, we are having more of our old movie and cocktail date nights. Our normal Saturday evening date nights are happening more frequently during the week and we’re enjoying more happy hours with each other.

Discovering More Time To Be Creative

Along with being more intentional in our time as a family, we are doing more craft projects with painting and using chalk and even gardening. I’ve also found that I have more time on my hands since we aren’t driving to playdates and with this time, I’ve started to create more content for my audience. I’ve launched a podcast course, am about to launch a pitching mastermind, and have put together more freebies. Finding ways to be creative is such a great outlet, but it’s also allowing me as a business owner to do what I truly enjoy doing.

Becoming Neighbors Instead Of Being Strangers

Do you know your neighbors or are they just strangers? One of the best things I’ve discovered during this pandemic is how strangers are no longer strangers. Whether you are grabbing your essentials at the store with your mask on or taking a walk around the neighborhood, people are smiling and saying hello. This is probably the first time and could be the last time that we are all leading very similar lives. We are all working from home, going to school from home, homeschooling our kids and stay at home as much as possible. We’re forming a new bond that is one based on mutual understanding for what the other is going through and I for one hope this stays with us.

Have you found a silver lining in the coronavirus pandemic?
