GAS LEAK -GAS LINE STRUCK DURING CONSTRUCTION PROJECT
News Release from Sheridan Fire Dist.
Sheridan, OR [August 15th 2016]: At approximately 09:16 AM today R G excavating, a private contractor working on a project for the City of Sheridan, struck a 2" gas line near the 900 block of SE Sheridan road. Units from Sheridan Fire District, City Public Works and Northwest Natural Gas responded to the scene. It was determined, based on the size of the leak and the weather conditions to evacuate a residence and a doctor's office . Traffic was also restricted to those in the immediate area's evacuation to reduce the risk of a fire.
Initial reports from Northwest Natural Gas indicated the gas was venting straight into the atmosphere limiting the risk to a small area around the leak. Thanks to the rapid response and quick work of the gas company crews the issue was resolved within an hour of their notification.
Sheridan Fire District turned the scene over to the gas company once they had clamped off the leak. The gas company continued to work on scene repairing the line and checking the nearby structures for signs of gas, once the structures were cleared the occupants would be allowed to return.
