How to take your life back and live it the way you want to. Not the way someone else wants you.
This podcast episode reflects on how fathers can be everyday heroes through small, meaningful moments rather than perfection. The host shares personal memories of learning to ride a bike and drive with her dad, highlighting how his patience, encouragement, and belief helped her navigate invisible learning challenges. The episode explores how support, understanding, and acceptance can shape confidence and identity, especially when learning looks different for everyone. Ultimately, it emphasizes that true heroism is showing up, staying patient, and helping someone become themselves.
Today's episode is about heroes from my family and friends. Thank you to my mom, brother, dad, dogs, and besties.
Even if I didn't name you in the episode, you are my heroes. Thanks.
Welcome to Shero, the podcast dedicated to celebrating the women who change the world, one courageous act at a time. I'm your host, Jen, and when we think of a hero, we often picture the cape, the flash of light, the single, glorious moment of salvation.
But what happens the day after the disaster? What about the strength it takes to show up, day in and day out, for a fight that never ends? Today, we’re challenging the myth of the momentary hero to explore a deeper, more enduring kind of courage: The sustained act of heroism.

Some of what I’m going to talk about might be triggering for you if you have experienced family drama, sexual abuse, or difficult times in your family. When I was growing up I always thought of my parents and brother when I thought of who were heroes or mentors in my life. I thought of them because they were and continue to be so supportive of me with the challenges I have faced in my life especially the NLD, migraine, and traumatic related ones.

In this heartwarming story, 29-year-old Jennifer saves her dad from a dangerous fall while he’s hanging a picture over the stairs. As he slips, Jennifer quickly drags over a soft puppy playpen—meant for their two dogs, Snickers and Sassy Pants—and manages to catch him just in time. Calm and focused, she checks on him, gently moves the puppies out of the way, and then helps him up, turning a near-disaster into a moment of unexpected heroism and love—all thanks to quick thinking and a dog pen not exactly designed for dads.
