The Trump administration requested that Canada and other NATO allies significantly increase their defense spending to 5% of GDP. Richard Shimooka is a military expert and Senior Fellow at the Macdonald-Laurier Institute, joins Shane Hewitt for a conversation about how Canada is committed to increasing defense spending and how it could do so, but reminds us that not even the US meets this target.

Can U.S. border guards deny entry based on cell phone contents? Immigration Lawyer Guidy Mamann joins the Nightshift and tells us that United States Customs and Border Protection agents have long had the authority to demand travellers provide access to their electronic devices, but what they’re looking for seems to have changed under the Donald Trump administration. There is concern though as some recent examples show guards may be denying entry to foreign nationals based on political leanings discovered in their social media and messaging apps that do not align with the Trump administration and its policies.
