Shifting from a technical support engineer to a Software developer

In this episode I am going to discuss about production support jobs and ways to shift to a develop job from it.

Till date a lot of job(Around 50%) are Production support jobs in Mass recruiting companies like TCS, Wipro, Infosys and others.

I was stuck in such job for 5 years, so i am an expert to talk in this field.

Most production support jobs are from large American Investment banks, which have 20-30 years old products. But most of them are very stable.

A lot of them do risk analysis during the night, so that the traders have their analysis ready on morning. Even batches runs during the weekend, so support during weekend is also required.

These are boring monitoring jobs, with occasionally unix system health check by running some commands. Every command and process will also be given to you.

In these jobs you learn nothing and you are generally kicked out after 5-10 years as it requires no skills.

To shift from such job to the best job in the world ie of Software developer, needs a lot of mental power, hard work and courage.

Most of the people in these type of jobs are aimless in life and have no goals. So, first keep only professional relationship for 8 hours with them.

Start coding 2 hours after your shift, instead of watching netflix or other things. Learn HTML, CSS, JavaScript and ReactJS and don't go after any other shiny objects like AI/ML and devops.

There are no jobs in AI/ML and devops also requires development knowledge. Go into devops after 2-3 years in web-app development.

Also post your development journey on social media specially linkedin. It is the only way to get a job.

Join a good flexible bootcamp or find a mentor or community to guide you and help you to make the switch.
