Fernwood Fitness Parramatta member Angelic used to wait for January to roll around as motivation to get her health on track, using the popular saying ‘new year new me’. During the past two years of the pandemic, Angelic found herself – like many of us – wearing her sweats around the house, unmotivated to workout, and creating habits she didn’t like.
One day, she’d had enough. She pulled out her brightest dresses and stuffed her sweat in the wardrobe. It was time to stop waiting for life to return to ‘normal’. Angelic wanted to live in the moment and enjoy every day, even when her and her three kids were confined to their house. She wanted to promote positivity and vitality in her household and seize every moment as it came.
Her newfound outlook extended to her time at Fernwood, and encouraged her to sign up for the Rise Challenge, a 6-week program focused on getting fitter and stronger, shifting mindsets, nutrition and mind health. Previously, Angelic had often looked at women in group fitness classes and thought to herself there was no way she could keep up with those women. She soon realised that she didn’t need to be fit to join a class, and that her health and confidence would skyrocket with persistent training.
Fast-forward a little, Angelic was nominated by her home Fernwood club as their Rise Challenge leader for her commitment and achievements throughout the challenge, and was crowned by Fernwood Fitness Australia as the winner for 2021. And boy, was Angelic thrilled!
In this podcast, Angelic discusses her experience in the challenge, how it has impacted her health journey as well as life outside the club, and why she describes the challenges as a ‘slumber party with friends’.
