Listen Later

The podcast discusses the paradox: how come when there are no words to express the horror of 7th October there are several poems written about the experiences and feelings? The bilingual English/Hebrew collection of poetry, entitled Shiva. Poems of 7 October, edited and translated by Rachel Korazim, Michael Bohnen, and Heather Silverman, was published by The Institute for Jewish Research and Publications Cambridge, MA in 2024. A Hungarian translation of the book will be released by MAZSIHISZ (The Federation of Hungarian Jewish Communities) and the Hungarian online magazine Izraelinfo.

In this episode Professor Andrea Peto from CEU talks with Rachel Korazim, who collected the poems from digital platforms, and Krisztina Politzer Maymon, the co-editor and translator of the Hungarian edition, about how poetry reflects and transcends imposed political divisions and how translations can build bridges over destruction.
