Should a woman go back to her maiden name after Divorce?

Kevin Hart ex wife Torrei Hart been defending herself on why she’s keeping the last name. She says:

"'Cause it's mine, first of all," she declared, “Second of all, 'cause Kevin never asked for it back — he don't want [me] to give it back, he's not trippin'."

And third of all: my kids don't want me to change my name."

How to Change Your Name During a Divorce

If you're getting divorced and you know you want to go back to using the name you had before your marriage, it's best to handle the name change during your divorce proceedings.

In most states, you can include your request for a name change in the divorce paperwork. If you wait to submit a name change request until after the divorce is final, though, you might have to file a separate petition and pay an additional filing fee.

However, I will say it’s a lot of work trying to get your name changed on:

Bank accounts, email addresses, school documents, certifications etc…

Some women don’t change their last name for the children.

Ultimately, do what’s best for you. This video isn’t to persuade.

However, here’s something to think about: if you are divorced from your husband, why keep his last name? Wouldn’t you want a fresh start? Do away with anything that has to do with him so you can have your full identity?
