In a society that only a few years ago seemed poised to do away with any and all stigmas for all people, the opposite extreme has emerged. Its label is "call-out" or "cancel" culture. If you do something that is sufficiently offensive or politically incorrect, you must be condemned and ostracized. That's how it works.
Now, the Bible does talk about rejecting heretics, separating from brothers who refuse to deal with their sin, avoiding people who are divisive, and disciplining church members who are unrebukable. But is that the same as modern cancel culture?
Among other things, the purpose and spirit of canceling people today is just about as far from the biblical purpose and spirit as you can possibly imagine. Listen to this episode as David and Patrick try to unpack some of these differences.
