Should I do MBA after engineering or MBA at all?

In this episode I will discuss the cons of doing MBA in India. A big no and especially after computer engineering. First do coding for some years and it it doesn't interest you, then go for MBA.

  • A lot of people also after working in dead end jobs like production support and testing go for MBA. Infact almost 10% of my friends have taken this path.
  • But keep in mind that only top 50 B-Schools matters, but most people end up doing from some unknown MBA college, as they are not able to get good percentile in CAT.
  • They do 2 years full-time MBA and learn nothing, as everybody knows that even IIM teaches 20 years old marketing ideas, but Β the brand name is good.
  • So, these people generally ends up in Pre-sales again for the same IT companies, but not at a much higher salaries with 2 year paying a bomb in these colleges(Around 10 lakhs).
  • Two of my friends frustrated with their IT jobs in the Wipro and Infosys did MBA after 4 years from IIFM. Although being top 50 B-school, but very specialized domain of Forest management. So, they got jobs inside Forest resorts as Managers. One never joined and became an mediocre Insurance agent and other did for 2 years before changing again.
  • Some other people did executive MBAs after 10 years in IT field and trust me it just a waste of money. All big IIMs give this PG Diploma in marketing, and they charges anything between 3 lakhs to 5 lakhs for weekend lecture. Those executive MBAs neither took them up in corporate ladder or helped them. All of my known colleagues still doing the same job.
  • So, instead of running after MBA, learn to code even if you are into Production support or testing in these companies. Coding is the future and is not tough, it just requires dedication and daily leanings.
