In today’s episode, I’ll discuss if it makes sense to higher an independent financial advisor to help you out with your university retirement plan. This podcast actually stems from a recent lunch I had with a client of mine and his colleague that tagged along with us. I’ll get into the discussion I had with this professor and how he ended up becoming a client of mine – still a client today. I’ll get into the pros and cons of hiring a financial advisor and why it may not be a good idea for you to go at this alone. It’s such a big part of your financial future – you definitely want to get it right. I’ll discuss how a lot of employees will look to their vendor reps (ie…Fidelity or TIAA) for help with various questions regarding their retirement plan. I’ll discuss why that’s not a good idea since they do not act in a fiduciary role and they’re not experts when it comes to all the nuances in your retirement plan and the details of the investments in the plan. You’ll come away from this episode with a good understanding on if hiring an independent financial advisor is a good idea for you and, if so, how you go about doing that.
In this episode, you’ll learn:
Jump on Greg's calendar to see about improving your TIAA situation.
