It's a crazy and critical time for the FBI. And now that FBI Director Christopher Wrey has bravely contradicted the White House on the timeline surrounding the background check into disgraced former WH aide Rob Porter, the question is: What's the proper role of the FBI? Should it be an obedient, go-with-the-program cog in the Executive Branch or a separate and independent agency that can act as a check on the White House, even though that may be difficult since the Presidnt hires and fires the FBI director? It's time to decide. Actually, it's past time.
